The LTSA advises consumers to be careful about the personal banking information that they provide over the phone.
Police are aware that calls seem to be originating from certain untraceable phantom phone numbers such as 604 630-0300. The caller may say they are from CIBC or another organization, and he or she may ask you for your banking information, including whether or not you have a mortgage. Unless you recognize the person's voice, immediately ask the caller for their name, company name and phone number. If the caller does not appear legitimate, hang up. You can then call the company they mentioned using the number listed in your phone directory or listed on the company's website to verify the call.
