Index Books
Index books are part of the LTSA's collection of historic records. They are hardcopy ledgers and registers that contain references, notations and entries about land title interests and surveys for individual parcels.
Various index books were created throughout the years to fulfill record keeping, create cross-referencing capability, meet document retrieval needs and facilitate historical record preservation. Some continue to be used for historical and legal research. They include:
- Plan intake book
- Numerical property index
- Power of attorney index
- Companies index
- Owner name index
- Running number series microfilm index (logbooks)
- Indian reserve index
- Documents filed index
- Townsite registers
- Subdivision index
- Un-subdivided index
- District and islands index
- Reverted land registers
- District lot registers
- Land registers
Accessing Index Books
Significant knowledge about BC land title and survey records combined with familiarity of land registration processes is needed to efficiently and effectively use the LTSA's various index books and registers. As such, they are of the greatest interest and value to Authority staff and professionals with direct access privileges to LTSA records.
