CIRCULAR LETTER NO. 441

(Supersedes Circular Letter No. 436)

June 22, 2009

TO ALL BRITISH COLUMBIA LAND SURVEYORS

Re: Land Title and Survey Authority Fee Increase

On June 9, 2009, the Land Title and Survey Authority (LTSA) announced a fee increase effective July 1, 2009. Links to the new fee schedule are below.

The LTSA’s Operating Agreement controls how fee increases can occur. Generally, fee increases occur annually, on April 1 of each year and are restricted to an amount no greater than the annual adjusted increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Changing economic conditions, the need to reinvest in the modernization of its business and other factors caused the LTSA to consider a fee increase greater than CPI.

In order for the LTSA to increase fees above CPI, the approval of an independent Fee Commissioner, jointly appointed by the LTSA and the province, is required. Accordingly, George Morfitt, FCA, was appointed as Fee Commissioner to review this matter. George Morfitt’s report and other related documents can be accessed by the links contained below:

The following links will take you to the new LTSA fee schedules, effective July 1, 2009. Surveyor General related fees are provided on pages 6 and 7 of the first schedule, fees for copies of official plans, Crown grants and other items are shown in the second schedule.

Yours sincerely,
