Well Site plans prepared pursuant to the Petroleum & Natural Gas Act: Outline of well pad location and expression of area

Recently this office expressed concerns to several land surveyors in the oil patch over the manner in which the extent of well site pads and the areas of well site pads were depicted on certain Well Site plans.

Our concern was in regard to only Well Site plans prepared to show new or proposed well head locations upon pads already defined by a Well Site plan.

Upon review of this issue, land surveyors are advised to continue with their existing practice. That is, on these Well site plans it is permissible to depict the extent of the pad with broken lines and not to provide an area of the pad.

For clarification please contact me.
