The Land Title and Survey Authority of British Columbia (LTSA) is pleased to confirm BC Assessment has adopted ParcelMap BC to support operations and deliver mapping of assessment data to customers. Mapped representations of land title, survey and tax assessment information in BC are now aligned, based on the common spatial framework provided by ParcelMap BC. BC Assessment joins 20 other organizations, including local governments and other provincial agencies who currently use ParcelMap BC as their representation for property boundary mapping. There are also more than 75 other organizations who are assessing or transitioning to ParcelMap BC.

“The adoption of ParcelMap BC by BC Assessment marks a key milestone for all the participating stakeholders who helped make ParcelMap BC a reality,” says Brian Greening, Director of ParcelMap BC Products. “The consistent alignment of the survey, title and tax representations of real property is valuable for users such as local governments, and supports their efforts to adopt ParcelMap BC.”

“As a dynamic and reliable assessment services provider that supports strong and vibrant communities, BC Assessment benefits from operational and customer efficiencies by using ParcelMap BC as our cadastre source,” says Tom O’Brien, Senior GIS Analyst at BC Assessment. “BC Assessment values its relationship with the ICI Society and thanks all members, including the LTSA, who provided feedback during the consultation phase.”

BC Assessment provides annual property assessments and property information for over two million properties with a combined value of nearly $2 trillion. The resulting assessment roll provides the foundation for local and provincial taxing authorities to raise about $8 billion in property taxes each year, funding many community services around the province.

Serving as a common system of reference for property information in BC, ParcelMap BC provides standardized and up-to-date property data infrastructure which improves land-related research, planning and business decisions. The LTSA and ICI Society are actively promoting the adoption of ParcelMap BC by organizations such as local governments and major utilities.
