O’Brian Blackall recently retired as President of the McElhanney Group of Companies, a position held for 17 years. A significant part of his role with McElhanney was to create strategic alliances and relationships with key stakeholders, and develop leaders through coaching and mentoring key personnel. He also championed the establishment of McElhanney’s Health, Safety and Environment Management Program out of concern for the health and safety of 380-plus employees, sub-contractors, and clients. O’Brian currently sits as a Board member of the McElhanney Group of Companies, and as a member of its Audit and Finance Committee, providing strategic guidance and oversight.
With over 40 years of experience in land survey operations, O’Brian has worked throughout the Arctic, Western Canada, the East Coast of Canada, and Africa. He is a past President and Board member of the Association of British Columbia Land Surveyors (ABCLS), and a long-time member of the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors (ACLS) and Professional Surveyors Canada (PSC). Passionate about the land surveying profession, O’Brian contributes to his profession’s long term success by getting involved with the many committees, associations, educational institutions and various government bodies who regulate, monitor and promote the surveying profession.
In 2009, O’Brian obtained his Chartered Director (C. Dir.) designation from The Directors College. He holds his Geomatics (Surveying) Diploma from British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).
