Re: Integrated Survey Area No. 10, District of North Cowichan and Integrated Survey Area No. 11, City of Duncan - Vertical Integration of Existing Monuments

The coordinate control monument listings for the North Cowichan Integrated Survey Area No. 10 and Duncan Integrated Survey Area No. 11 have been updated to include 576 new elevation values for control monuments. Please be advised of the following:

  • The vertical integration status of 418 of these monuments is being updated from NOT INTEGRATED to INTEGRATED into CGVD28.
  • The vertical integration status of 151 of these monuments was already INTEGRATED; however, their elevations are being revised as a result of this adjustment.
  • The vertical integration status of 7 of these monuments is being updated from DESIGN to INTEGRATED.

These new elevations are the result of the completion of Phase 2 of the vertical network adjustment first communicated in Circular Letter 472 on October 17, 2017.

Updated coordinate listings have been published in an electronic format under the authority of Section 13(5) of the Land Survey Act. The new listings are available for viewing or download from the Surveyor General Division section of the LTSA website, under Integrated Survey Area Program. This web page displays a table of all Integrated Survey Areas in numerical order. The ISA number provides a link to the respective coordinate control monument listing.

An electronic map of the location and extent of all Integrated Survey Areas is published in the ParcelMap BC Search for Land Surveyors view on myLTSA under the authority of Section 13(1) of the Land Survey Act. ParcelMap BC shows the location and designation of the coordinate control monuments on the Survey Features>>Survey Control layer and the boundary of the integrated survey areas on the Survey Features>>Integrated Survey Areas layer.

A user may also link to the MASCOT Survey Control Database to obtain control monument sketches, detailed coordinate information and revision history. To invoke this function within ParcelMap BC, turn on the Survey Control layer to see the location of all monuments.

Click on the desired monument location; in the Search Results pane on the right side of the screen, the monument should be listed by GCM number and, when hovered over, there is a link to Search MASCOT which will bring up a new page with the GCM number pre-entered for a search in MASCOT. When viewing the Long Form coordinate listing, consult section 10 in order to see the changes in elevation, which are a result of this better integration.

Legal surveys within the North Cowichan and Duncan Integrated Survey Areas must be integrated according to Part 5 of the General Survey Instruction Rules and must use the new elevation values for those legal surveys requiring elevation integration (i.e. Air Space plans) which are not already substantially complete as of the publishing of this letter.

Yours sincerely,
